Turning Point
Turning Point was established in 1986 and serves survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas. Our mission is to provide safe refuge, holistic support, and a pathway toward healing and self-sufficiency for individuals and families fleeing violence.
Services include:
- Emergency Shelter & Housing:
Turning Point provides a safe, confidential emergency shelter for survivors and their children who are escaping abusive situations. We offer short-term housing along with safety planning and case management, and we work closely with community partners to assist clients with longer-term housing options when they are ready to transition.
- Meals & Basic Needs:
Residents are provided daily meals, essential personal care items, clothing as needed, and a secure environment focused on dignity and healing.
- Advocacy & Case Management:
Our advocates walk alongside survivors, offering emotional support, crisis intervention, safety planning, and assistance navigating systems such as legal services, protective orders, childcare, healthcare, and social services.
- Counseling & Support Services:
We provide trauma-informed support and referrals for counseling and mental health services to help survivors process their experiences and rebuild their lives.
- Employment & Life Skills Support:
Turning Point helps clients work toward independence by connecting them with employment resources, education opportunities, financial literacy support, and job readiness tools.
- Community Education & Prevention:
In addition to shelter services, Turning Point engages in community education to raise awareness about domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, and to promote prevention and early intervention.
Funds raised in support of Turning Point directly impact survivors by helping sustain shelter operations, meals, advocacy services, and resources that empower individuals and families to move from crisis to stability.

Woman to Woman- Kenya
This year’s Global Ministry project is the Woman to Woman trip to Kenya which is set for the fall of 2025.
Kenya is a country in Eastern Africa. According to the 2019 Kenyan census, 85.5% of the population is Christian. However, Kenya continues to be a patriarchal society, and as such Kenyan women and girls face a range of issues including widespread gender-based violence, and limited access to education and employment opportunities among other issues.
The Virginia Disciples Women’s Ministries/CWF is looking forward to learning from the group of Disciple Women after their trip to visit and learn from the women of Kenya.
